What this assumes
Assumes a Monday to Friday work week and that every gazetted public holiday is a day off for you. A holiday on a Sunday moves to the Monday MOM gazettes. A holiday on a Saturday is not counted, because MOM lets employers give a day off in lieu or a day's pay instead. Breaks run 4 to 16 days with a working day on each side, and we keep up to 8 that do not overlap. School holidays are the MOE vacation periods for primary and secondary schools; extra school-only days off are listed separately. Why is a Saturday holiday not counted?
When a public holiday falls on a Saturday, MOM lets your employer give you another day off or a day's extra pay. Because the day is not fixed, we leave it out. If your employer gives a day off, your break may be longer.
What about a Sunday holiday?
The following Monday becomes the public holiday, and we count that Monday.
Why does one break have no public holiday?
With 5 leave days, a plain Monday to Friday week off joins two weekends into 9 days. We show it as a regular week off so you can compare it with breaks around public holidays.
Do these dates suit preschools too?
School holidays here are MOE's primary and secondary vacations, which MOE Kindergartens follow. Other preschools and childcare centres set their own closures, so check with your centre.
