Which year does my child start N1, K1, P1 and the PSLE?
School years from birth date
Enter your child’s birth date or due date. See the year for each preschool level, MOE Kindergarten and P1 registration, Primary 1 and the PSLE.
Step 2 Your result
Your child starts Primary 1 in
Each step, in order. Dates appear once MOE or SEAB publishes them.
Born on 1 January? MOE counts your child with the children born the year before, so the years above are a year earlier than the birth year suggests. ECDA’s age-of-entry answer does not say how it counts a 1 January birthday, so ask your preschool which level it places your child in.
Adds the dates to your calendar. Published dates get reminders 14 days and 1 day before; a year with no dates yet gets a 1 January “Check dates” reminder.
Next: check your P1 phase, compare MOE Kindergarten and childcare or see every child’s dates at once.
What this result assumes
ECDA sets preschool levels by the age a child turns that year. N1 is at 3 (ECDA calls it Pre-Nursery), N2 at 4 (ECDA: Nursery), K1 at 5 and K2 at 6. For MOE Kindergarten and P1, MOE counts children born 2 January to 1 January as one cohort. A 1 January birthday joins the year before. MOE Kindergarten registration is in the year before K1, and the P1 registration exercise in the year before P1. The PSLE is taken in Primary 6. We show dates only where MOE or SEAB has published them, checked 12 October 2026. That is the 2026 MOE Kindergarten and P1 exercises and SEAB’s tentative 2026 PSLE results date. Later years say the dates are not published yet. A child who starts school earlier or later, or goes to a special education school, may follow other years: ask the school or preschool. MOE says it is reviewing the P1 registration framework; the steps above follow the 2026 exercise.
Step 3 What next
When should I join preschool waitlists?Common questions
Why do N1 and N2 have other names?
ECDA calls N1 Pre-Nursery and N2 Nursery. Many preschools still say N1 and N2. They are the years your child turns 3 and 4.
Why is there no date for my child’s P1 registration?
MOE publishes each exercise’s dates in the year it runs. We show the year now and add the dates when MOE announces them.
Does my child have to register for P1?
MOE’s 2026 release says children in the cohort must take part in the P1 registration exercise. The other route is a special education school’s Junior 1 or P1 programme.
