Quick answer
MOH’s latest bills (2023 discharges) put a typical vaginal delivery at S$1,350 in subsidised Ward B2 and S$10,815 across private hospitals, before MediSave. Caesareans cost more. MediSave often covers a subsidised birth in full; a private birth usually needs several thousand dollars in cash.
The useful number: For a 2-day vaginal delivery, MediSave pays up to S$3,380. The private hospital median of S$10,815 leaves about S$7,435 for cash or insurance.

How do you work out the cash you need?
- Pick the delivery type. Many parents also price a caesarean as a backup budget.
- Pick the ward class: subsidised C or B2, unsubsidised B1 or A, or private.
- Look up MOH’s bill; the top of the typical range gives a cushion.
- Work out the MediSave limit: the procedure limit plus the daily limit for your stay.
- Take off what your insurance pays, if it covers maternity.
- Add any antenatal bills above S$900, which MediSave will not cover.
What does this look like for a public and a private birth?
- Ward B2 vaginal delivery, 2 days
- Bill S$1,350; MediSave covers all of it; cash S$0
- Private hospital vaginal delivery, 2 days
- Bill S$10,815; MediSave up to S$3,380 (S$1,120 + S$1,130 × 2); cash about S$7,435

- S$1,200 of antenatal bills
- MediSave pays S$900; you pay S$300

Which tool and download help?
The Delivery bill estimator shows the bill, MediSave cover and cash, by ward or hospital. Pack the Hospital bag and admission list so your documents are ready. Next, the First-year baby cost estimator adds up the year after.
Why might our bill be different?
It covers costs only; your doctor decides how your baby is delivered. A longer stay, a complication or an assisted delivery changes the bill. The tool does not cover a complicated caesarean, which has no named MediSave package. How the hospital splits the bill can also lower MediSave cover. Ask for a written estimate, and check your insurance before the birth.
Baby’s own bill is separate. If baby comes early or needs the NICU, see Born early or twins: bills, grants and leave for MOH’s NICU bills and how MediShield Life and MediSave help.

How much is a normal delivery at a public hospital?
MOH’s latest median for a vaginal delivery was S$1,350 in Ward B2 and S$1,346 in Ward C, before MediSave. MediSave often covers it.
How much is a caesarean at a private hospital?
MOH’s latest private median was S$15,805. With a 3-day stay, MediSave pays up to S$5,040, leaving about S$10,765.
Why is a private ward so much more than ward B2?
Wards C and B2 are subsidised. MediSave limits are the same everywhere, so other wards leave more cash to pay.
